The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Developing Instructional Materials to Enhance Teacher Competence

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides opportunities for teachers to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of developing instructional materials and learning plans. However, some teachers still face limitations in understanding AI applications, developing effective prompts, and reviewing and adapting AI-generated outputs to meet learning needs. This community service activity aimed to improve teachers’ knowledge and skills in utilizing AI as a tool for developing learning plans effectively, critically, and responsibly. The activity was conducted on July 13, 2026, at MTs Al Falaah Banjar Baru, involving teachers and educational staff. The methods included training, demonstrations, hands-on practice, mentoring, consultation, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The materials covered an introduction to AI in education, the benefits of AI, AI applications, prompt development techniques, and the use of AI to develop learning objectives, materials, activities, media, and assessments in accordance with the curriculum and students’ characteristics, supporting independent and contextual learning planning. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding and skills. Participants were able to develop initial learning plans, create more specific prompts, and review and refine AI-generated outputs. The activity demonstrated that training and mentoring are effective strategies for improving teachers’ competencies in utilizing AI critically, ethically, and responsibly.
